Invocation: Namaste

Replies To Postcards From Tourist and Travelers

Question: Katherine, what's the real meaning of Namaste?

First, remember that we use words to communicate meaning and even better, to communicate intention. Also, remember that it is a bit difficult to use words to explain Spirit. Why? Spirit is non-physical and when we attempt to explain Spirit with words it may evoke folklore. :)  I prefer to state that, Spirit is a matter of the heart.

The gesture Namaste represents the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us. The intention implies a desire to stay connected living "Spirit-IN-Love."  The gesture is an acknowledgment of the soul in one by the soul in another, blended. "Nama" means bow as profound admiration and respect, "as" means I, and "te" means you. Therefore, Namaste literally means "bow me you" or "I bow to you."

My own definition, the way I FEEL IT IN MY HEART, the meaning of Namaste is "the glue of life that happily weaves and inspires-to-evolve love while expanding it - individually and collectively - including ALL living beings."

A way to intentionally perform Namaste:  We place the hands together at the heart charka, close the eyes, and bow the head. It can also be done by placing the hands together in front of the third eye, bowing the head, and then bringing the hands down to the heart. This is an especial deep form of acceptance and acknowledgement of divinity in one another. Although in the West the word "Namaste" is usually spoken in conjunction with the gesture, in India, it is understood that the gesture itself signifies Namaste, and therefore, it is unnecessary to say the word while bowing.

INTENTION is the most important thing. Intention is the Divine Essence that gives birth and ground our heart-impulses and actions. What is the intention of your energy?

  •  What's in your heart?
  • Are you acknowledging the divine connection with-in and with-out you? Do you appreciate the value of it?
  • Do you honor life? Do you live IN love? Do you realize that you are Spirit IN love? What does this means to you? How would you tran-scend Spirit in this world and your Divine Humanity in Spirit?
  • I add a smile to the invocation of Namaste because it makes me smile when I consciously choose to live IN love.

  • I acknowledge that I am Divine, I am free, I am love.

Have a Happy Namaste!

Remember to meditate, reflect or journal about your life. Listen to your heart and allow your heart to speak its truth. May you have a divine and happy journey. :)

Love and light!
